use of AI
My AI policy
No AI here.
My policy on AI is simple.
I don’t use it. At all. Never.
Not even to research. Nor make outlines. Nor run spell checks.
And, no, it’s not because I’m some kind of neo-luddite.
I have my reasons. Good reasons.
For example, I enjoy the process of writing. Especially at the research stage – why would I hand that over to AI?
And for those who claim AI helps them research … they should think twice.
AI doesn’t help you research in an objective manner. It has an agenda. Just ask and it will tell you that it makes “editorial decisions” in what it shows you and what it omits in its responses.
Unlike old-school Google search, AI is not concerned with finding the most correct answer, it’s only concerned with finding an answer that aligns with its objectives – i.e. the objectives of its CEO – which are usually politically, ideologically and economically driven.
In addition, it will only show you responses aligned with its plans for the future. And rest assured, it has plans to shape our future. human future.
I’m not ignorant. And despite having said that above, I like technology.
This is why I gave AI a solid test run – for 2 years.
However, after catching it out on several occasions, trying to “steer me” or flat out refuse to help me (which was weird BTW), I decided to go back to good old manual research, using books, academic journals and direct contact with other humans … in my case, professionals and academics within the art and design community.
I hope that explains my position clearly.
I exploit more of the above in my book “Post-AI Art & Design: In Search for the Human Touch”
If you feel the same or differently about AI and want to talk about, drop me a line: hello[at]sylwia.au or DM me through my socials.
Have fun,
